Tim Vine, star of hit BBC comedy, Not Going Out, has sensationally quit the show, just after execs had commissioned another two series!

Vine, who has played show star Lee Mack’s best pal Tim since the sitcom began in 2006, is the second main character to quit, after comedian Miranda Hart left the show after two series after the 2009 Christmas special.

Speaking to TV Biz, Vine said:  “I’m great friends with everyone on the cast and I’ve had a great time doing it but after five series I simply fancied a change.  Tim? Is he the blond one?”

A friend added: “Tim loves the show and it has made him a big star. But he has now had enough. He’s got lots of other work coming in and is keen to try other things.

“He’s been doing the show for six years and has been through the highs and lows.

“But he figures he may as well quit while he is ahead and make the most of his popularity.”

This news comes after the BBC recently confirmed that after the current series, series 5, they had commissioned a further two, series 6 and 7, taking the show into 2014.  The show is hugely popular, currently pulling in up to five million viewers per episode, and bosses are now worried that storylines will have to be adapted and shaken in an attempt to replace Tim.

A BBC insider said last night: “We’ll be introducing some exciting new characters in the next series. It’s now what might be termed a long-running sitcom. It has had several changes of cast along the way and has grown audience rather than lost it.”
